FAQ

How does Eco-Diaper Service work?

Eco-Diaper Service will provide you with cotton prefold cloth diapers. When you change your baby, you will put the dirty cloth diaper into the pail liner that comes with your setup package. Once a week, you will set the pail liner full of dirty diapers outside your front door, and we will pick it up and leave you a batch of clean diapers in its place. You are responsible for purchasing and washing your own diaper covers and Snappis, if you choose to use them. You can purchase those from us if you wish.

How do I sign up?

To sign up for Eco-Diaper Service, you will need to purchase a setup package and at least one week of service.  Once that purchase has been made, someone from Eco-Diaper Service will contact you to arrange a time for your personal diapering tutorial.  It is never too early to sign up.  Ideally we will schedule your tutorial about two weeks before you are due, so that you will have everything you need once baby arrives.  Baby already here?  No problem!  We will fit you in to our schedule as soon as possible so you can get cloth diapering.

How many diaper covers and Snappis do I need?

We recommend you have 5-10 diaper covers and 2-3 Snappis to start out with. A diaper cover you will probably need to change a couple times a day, so you will need to have a few on hand so you do not constantly have to wash them. A Snappi should be able to last you a while, but it is good to have extras in case one is misplaced.

Do I need to do anything to the diaper before it goes in the pail liner?

If your baby is eating solid foods, and has solid waste, please shake that out in the toilet before putting it in the pail liner. Otherwise there may be some odor issues! If you are using the flushable diaper liners, make sure you take those off and flush them before placing the diaper in the pail liner. Other than that, nothing should be done to the diaper before you place it in the pail liner (no rinsing, treating, etc).

What about odors?

We have deodorizing discs that we strongly recommend. It is a little citrus smelling circle that sticks inside your diaper pail. They should be replaced every four weeks and can be purchased from us. Solid waste should be shaken out of the cloth diaper into the toilet before placing it into the pail liner. Using flushable diaper liners may help reduce odors as well, as some of the waste will be flushed before putting the diaper into the pail liner.  If odors are still an issue, you make sprinkle some baking soda in your pail liner, on the dirty diapers.  This will not damage your diapers and will help absorb odors.

I signed up for 100 diapers a week, but I got less than that this week. What happened?

On your first two deliveries we will bring you the number of diapers which you ordered when you signed up. Beginning with the third delivery we will place you into a rotation system, which means that the number of used diapers you turn in one week will be returned to you the following week. As a result of this two week rotation system, we probably will not deliver the full amount you ordered, but instead we will deliver the number you returned soiled the prior week. We assume that if you do not return all of your diapers soiled that you still have clean diapers at home to supplement your next week’s delivery. You should start the beginning of each week with enough clean diapers to make up the full amount you have ordered. If you find that you are running short of diapers, you may wish to increase your weekly rental number. It is only $1.00 per week, for ten (10) extra diapers.

Finally, because we are a rental service, you will be charged for the full amount, regardless of usage. (For example, if you go to a video store and rent three movies but only have time to watch two, you still had to pay the rental fees to take all 3 home). The diaper service is week by week, not per diaper. Each week you have diapers out of our supply and unavailable to other customers is a fully charged rental week.

How are my diapers washed?

As of April 2011, we are using a brand new Maytag Commercial Washer!  Your diapers will go through a cold water rinse/soak, a hot water wash, and three cold water rinse cycles. We use Country Save detergent and OxiClean Baby. Chlorine bleach and fabric softeners are not used, and as a result you will see some staining on your diapers.  Keep in mind that you are receiving your same exact diapers back each week.

What if I forgot to leave my diapers out on my service day?

The first time you forget, we will leave clean diapers at your door anyway. However the following week, we will only leave clean diapers for you if you have put out two weeks of dirty diapers for us. If this occurs more than once, a $5.00 service charge will be added to your next invoice.

Can I use diaper cream?

Do not use any diaper creams with cod liver oil or any other fish oils. Do not use Desitin or A&D. These creams will stain the diapers. Other creams are acceptable. Check out this link for some great recommendations. Diaper Creams

What if I need to change my service?

This can be done through email, phone, or by filling out the order form and leaving with your dirty diapers for your driver to pick up. Changes in your service may include:

• Change in size or amount of diapers or placing an order for accessories – At least one week notice
• Moving, ending service, or going on vacation – At least two weeks notice

Can I change my delivery day?

Unfortunately, your delivery day is scheduled based on your geographic location and cannot be changed.

What if my delivery day falls on a holiday?

We will deliver diapers everyday of the year, except for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas. You will be given at least one week notice of a change to compensate for these two holidays.

Where can I get more cloth diapering accessories?

Eco-Diaper Service does offer a limited selection of cloth diaper accessories.
